This is an early Eickhorn Silver Luft Sword with something I've never seen before. Notice what appears to be a set screw at the base of the pommel. It's on both sides and not a set screw. One "Aisle Expert" at the MAX told me somebody drilled a hole through it to hang it on a wall. Nice try but the pin doesn't go through. It's recessed on both sides.
Anybody ever run across this before?

Brian,

That's wild. It does look like it's for a set screw. I take it the holes are not threaded then?? I havn't come accross that yet. However, I have seen a number of strange drilled holes on the inside of the pommel, next to the hole threaded for attachment to the tang. Weird.

Tom:
No threads that are visible. I see a very shallow cups that appear pressed in from each side. No protrusion from the base of the pommel.

Brian:
That's one of the crazier things I've see recently. The only thing I can think of is some did this in an attempt to stabilize the pomel.

One thing to consider, notice the gold tone to 98% of the pommel. The crossguard is the same. That's the original lacquer. My point to consider is there's no disruption in the lacquer from what ever drill was used to do this to the pommel. It's been there from the start.

It is really interesting to see things such as this. Without the Internet and digital pictures, and forums like this and others, similar news as this would never surface.

My backpack is a black sheep, not a monkey. Notice his armband. I only bring him out for the SOS & MAX. I also have a white one just to be diverse, he goes everywhere.
