The hilt looks Italian to me - similar to the Model 1871/1909 Troopers sword which had a wooden hilt.

Similar design of guard.

Possibly an officer's version.

Is there a coat of arms engraved on the blade ?

I think I can see some engraving but can't make out what it is.
