That is actually the only thing strange I noticed about it, also. However, I have absolutely no idea at all about what it is. If I was to make a guess, I would say it is older than ww2, and does not have anything to do with any association, plus the grip is not original to the cutlass itself. But that is all I could say, and these are only wild guesses... Would be fun to know anythin more about it.

Houston: Thank you Actually, I didnt notice it first, but then I saw those small animal heads on the crossguard, and more or less fell in love with them. I am considering to place a bid on it, just because of those... Is it possible to tell anymore about it, by just looking at the pics? I just assume it is some private purchase cutlass, and not somehow connected with some organisation? Do you believe the metal parts have been plated, or different from now in some other way, and would you say the current grip is similar to the original one? I find this quite interesting, thank you for your answer.
