First I have seen of a sawback type apart from a couple dress types, this thing I'm sure was used though not much. Blade is around 8" long and is marked F Tresch. I have no idea on this maker, I believe the knife to be either German or Austrian. As to the period of manufacture I should think 1910/30 though with the twin lines on the scabbard it could be of the 3rd Reich period but I think that might be near impossible to prove and in my eyes it doesn't matter. The blade sufers from a couple light grey area's but has 100% crossgraining and it's factory edge. Scabbard is black leather with dual lines running the length both obverse and reverse.

Hi Gary-scabbard construction appears similar to the F.Dula knives, would this date the product in any way??

Hi Paul

The style of leather work within the scabbard construction has been used during all periods so it's not something we can use to help identify a time frame for the construction of this knife, good idea though. I personally think that it was made between 1900 and 1940, I think thats about as close as we will come.

Cheers
