For those of you who collect hirschfängers a visit to the Stuttgart show is a must, 3 days of hunting for all kinds of nice stuff.

Do not adjust your screens, yes this blade is as wide as it looks at almost 2.5"

You'll notice that the grip and pommel assembly is almost exactly the same as on a standard DJ hirschfänger.

I believe it's from 1934 not before I think.

So this is likely to have really been a tool, not a dress item??

A bit of both I suspect, I passed this by on the first day thinking it was no good, just another put together piece, I didn't even pick it up, on the second day I decided to look at it properly then realised exactly what it was. It only has the factory edge and has not been sharpened, the blade is in almost mint condition.
A couple nice Stuttgart shooting badges I picked up as well.

First time I see a DJ Standhauer. I must admit, I didn't know about these. Thanks to you Gary, I will go to bed a little less stupid tonight.

I knew you guys would like this piece.

It's not something you will find in any catalouge, the guy who bought it must have been a member of the DJ and wanted to have a grip emblem applied, without doubt this is the way it came from Eickhorn. This exact pattern is not shown in the 1933 or 1934 Eickhorn hunting catalouges though there are similar types shown but without the grip emblem.

The Pack DJ hirschfänger is as far as I know an extremely rare maker, it has there special unique etch which only pack used, also this maker is one of only a couple of makers who used an etched mark on their blades, mid period I believe though I'm sure Houston could tell us more.
