I think these are all period. There are three types-all made by the same company. None of them are common. The first is a nickel silver hollowback-the second a greyish hollowback and the third an aluminum solid back. I used to think these were Game Warden badges ( That's what it says on the badge) but after thinking about it and observing them for a number of years I wonder if they are in fact a "Hunting License" badge. That would explain the high numbers. I don't recall anyone saying this before or questioning that they were Game Warden badges--I wonder if our German friends know??? I just don't understand the high numbers -and this may be the answer.

Thanks Houston, I hadn't seen the Aluminium solid back type before. Here's a few other pins I found. I haven't seen the silver type before not with the laurel leaves at the bottom.

I wondered whether you would pick these up Gary, thought about it briefly myself but had other fish to fry at the time.

They do look nice do they not?

Here's my Nickel version.

Cheers
Don

Here's the second type that Houston mentions, couldn't say what it's made of but it's considerably lighter than the Nickel form.

Don, I grab what I can when I see it as I'm sure you do, I did not know anything about the solid back type, never seen it before but I couldn't see anything wrong with it so took a chance, these are tough to find, your is a great example of the silver hollow back type, I love all the hunting badges, I presume the two silver versions with the oak leaves above are shooting awards, just a variation on the other type. He did have a nice Automobile DJ badge that is very rare, I thought about that one as well but I had spent enough, besides I already have one.

Thanks

For over 20 years I have had an interest in,researched, and collected almost exclusively, the warrant discs (badges of authority) of the law enforcement officers of the German Third Reich era. During that time I have never seen what I believed to be a badge of authority for a game warden, although I have seen a few neck worn warrant discs or badges, for fisheries enforcement officers. Those too are quite rare. They are usually made from stamped aluminum, although I have seen two examples struck in bronze. All have been struck on one side only, with two holes at the top for string suspension. The district of authority is also stamped into the fisheries enforcement disc. If anyone on the forum has an unquestionable example of a game wardens's badge, I hope they will post it. If anyone wants to sees the fisheries enforcement officer's disc, I will be glad to post it.
Thanks,

The three fisheries enforcement badges posted above clearly demonstrate that old men should never trust their memory. I had not looked at them in several years. When I dug them out, the "two" holes for suspension at the top that I mentioned...turned out to be a SINGLE hole. Sorry for the wrong information.

Don,

Thanks much for showing these, I know a number of us have never seen anything like this before. Do you have an estimate of how many of these might have been produced?

I am glad that you found the fisheries discs of interest. I have never seen a reproduction of one of these ands only a very few originals over a 20 year period. Actually I bought about all of them I ever saw, except a couple that the owners wouldn't sell. I have no idea how many of them were ever produced, as I have never seen any records for them in the archives.
