I thought i might have more luck on this forum than the badges forum as this one is hunting related. Any idea of value? I`m interested in it but don`t want to pay over the odds for it.

Thanks in advance for any info

Here is a less convincing variation of the same badge. I paid 50 cents for it. Big Grin

When did these appear then? My guess would be a long time ago. I can understand a reproduction of an original but as a fantasy it seems an odd choice. It has the appearance of authenticity about it. Unfortunate that it is not genuine as I like the look of it I must say.

They appeared about 10 + years or so ago along with a whole bunch of quality fake/fantacy enameled badges-Many NSFK-Balloon badges-and many others that you still see at almost every show. Later =they started making some really cheap copies.

Thanks Houston!
I don`t get to go to shows so that would explain why I have not seen the like. Being what they are they`re not likely to show on a reputable dealer site.

Gentlemen,

I am sorry for bring this thread up to the top again. As some of you may be aware, there has been a rather heated discussion on another forum as to whether these badges exisited pre 1945..... The thread is going around in circles with neither myself or the other protagonist willing or able to prove their theory one way or the other.

One of the moderators has come up with a suggestion that may help put it to bed once & for all. He has asked whether there is anyway to check if the Ost Preussen Jägerschaft even exisited & if so were they formed in 1888?

So do any of you hunting collectors know the answer to his question or where we may find it please?

Cheers
Don

The problem though Don is that these crooks are sometimes smart. When making a fantasy piece they'll use some part of a fact to legitimize their creation. So its possible that the group was in fact formed in 1888! There's got to be another way IF the group was formed then..
Enamel test? Maker on back comparisons?..Good luck..,G.

One of the big things that has to have a strong importance in evaluating some of these things but that is often ignored-Is when did they first appear. The answer is-about 10 years ago in the company of a whole lot of other good quality fake enamel badges-None that I know of before that in the old collections bought in the old days--and now they are everywhere. Hunting badges are quite rare in any form-NONE of the originals are around in this quantity and with many variations-cheap -in between -and quite good. Just not good.

Joe--I'm not sure what you meant by that but you won't find too many of the other fake enameled badges on sites either but-- there still are hundreds if not thousands of them out there.

Thank you Gentlemen.

Personally I agree with you Houston re this badge. The problem is that the protagonist on the other forum is spreading such mis-information there that people tend to believe the rubbish he posts. He also will not back down in an arguement so we thought we'd try & tackle him another way by perhaps proving that the East Prussian DJ didn't exist to start with.... Confused

Cheers
Don

Well-I really don't doubt that some sort of Hunting Assn. group existed at that time but I am 99% sure it WAS NOT called the Deutsches Jagerschaft. That is a Third Reich era organization.
If this was truly a badge to indicate continuous history-an older organization continuing --making just a name change to the new name, I would think the names of both organizations would be on the badge.
Now here ia another fact. Before the DJ the biggest hunting organization in Germany was the ADJV. There are no badges or anything else containing both names that are original. The ADJV ceased to exist when the DJ came in. There are some fakes however-(boar spear points are the most common)that have both names on them--and that is one way we know that they are fakes.
