I really do not know the correct name for these hirschfangers but was happy to purchase one listed in the For Sale Forum from Eric Rader a few weeks ago. It is the bright one in the group in case you missed seeing it on the Forum sale. I also bought a nice bayonet from him that was listed on the same sales sheet. His handle is VonRader in case you need some comfort in making a purchase from the For Sale Forum. I did give it a super Simichrome polishing and in most cases would pass on doing this but as you can see it is all brass and will slowly come out with a nice even patina. ( I hope) My interest is in all types of hunting and forestry daggers and I run ads for my collection on all the Forums and printed publications. There are so many different types of hunting and forestry daggers that you can start a collection on a specific classification and never catch up. Pins and badges and uniforms also help with what you are collecting.

I,m starting to get the same complex as I had before, I noticed I am the last to post on this thread and numerous others lately and am beginning to wonder if this is what is called a "threadkiller". It's almost as though my posts are somehow inadvertantly killing the threads off one by one! FrownBack to lurking. JohnJ

These are very nice pieces-seldom seen. Carried by WWI era Military Jager Unit NCO's. The ones with the Guard Star on the grip is for those in Guard Jager units. Many are in bad condition.
Called Oberjager Hirschfangers they are thought by many to be Officer pieces and some think they are civilian in nature but they are not. In fact there is much confusion between the military jager and the civilian jager. Most don't know there is a difference.

Houston, thank you for the valuable information you give on your forum on the hunting and forestry pieces. It is not only a great value to the collector like myself but to others that do not realize what a great hobby this is. I review back through the forum many times to go over what I might have missed in the past and help improve my own collection. I am sure others do the same. I will also say to those who post interest replies on the forms it is always appreciated by the person that has taken the time to take pictures and go through the process of reducing them to the correct sizes so that others can see some of the many items that the forms are dedicated to.
Sincerely,
HUBERTUS
