Here is a set I picked up recently. Lower offider state forestry service I believe. That is the extent for me. Would anyone else care to explain further? Thank you.

Hi Robin. This is a National Forestry Service tunic of a " Revierforsteranwarter", about a 2nd. Lt. It is the dress tunic as it has the silver colored buttons rather than the greenish plastic/bone ones. The collar should be velvet and also the collar tabs. This tunic was usually worn with the brocade belt and the visor cap with velvet band. The hat and belt shown were usually worn with the service tunic.

Thanks for the info Houston. The guy said he got it complete in south Minnesota 25 years ago from the guy that brought it back. It does have the velvet collar and collar tabs. The shoulder cord was hanging on the wrong side when I got it, so it could be stuff the vet picked up and put together from some German forestry lodge maybe. On the service tunic would buttons be the only difference? Or is the collar and tabs different too? Is the hat the early style or was it an every day hat versus the dress visor type? Sorry about all the extra questions but you know when you give info, no good deed will go unpunished.

Yeah--I sure know that about giving info. Anyway--The service tunic and visor hat are almost the same except -the tunic has a felt collar-the band on the visor is felt and the collar tab background is felt. Buttons are green plastic or green bone. NCO parts usually have the felt also. The fedora type hat was usually a service or field item. There are also tunics with usually no insignia with stag buttons that are often thought to be Forestry but IMO these are Shooting Assn.tunics. Shooting members also wore the fedora type hat but usually without the eagle and the round red centered black pip on the horsehair plumme. There are at least three "shoulder cords)--the one you show I believe being for the lower ranks.
Very little is known or has been published about the Forestry/Hunting/Shooting uniforms. I have the info and am in the process of translating that for another free guide. I will probably really suffer for giving out that info. Big Grin

Thank you Houston. Published reference material on the subject is almost non-existent. It would be great for the hobby if you were to assemble a guide. I have seen a few pages of period color drawings of uniforms (shooting and forestry), but rarely. If these could be gathered together and published in one literature source it would be a huge leap forward (along with your written knowledge).
I think I know a guy that has a page or two of those color renderings. He might scan or duplicate them if it would help?

So to recap, the difference between service and dress tunics is button type and felt versus velvet trim? Was the cloth quality higher on dress? All forestry stuff I have seen was of a very high cloth quality. Almost a doeskin feel.

Yes Robin--I would like to see those scans. I have not seen much difference in the material except the earlier ones seem to be a bit better quality.

I have put a request in to get scans or photos of the color plates. Should work since he owes me money.
