Would someone please tell me how to transfer the ebay number into the forum. I have not yet figured that out. Mac is anxious to get offers on this one, but something about it bothers me. I have quite a few Imperial and none have the stag cut down at the top to fit the cap quite like this one. I know this stamp is also used on repros. Am I missing anything else? Thanks, James

Try this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=17...0224721380%26fvi%3D1 Personally I have trouble with this type of piece, I wouldn't be comftable with it in my collection as a pre WWII piece, it's certainly not from WWI. Gary |

Thanks Gary. That word "comfortable" is a very good one, for I was not feeling comfortable either. Maybe Houston can tell us all the difinite things wrong with it. James

There's a few things I don't like, I'm not comftable with the overall appearance, just too bright and shiney not the glint you get from gilt, more the glare of polished brass. The scabbard in my opinion has been artificially aged, I really don't like that, the clamshell whilst is of a type used during both the Weimar and 3rd Reich periods is not one I would expect to see mated with the other fittings of the hilt. The stag grip is a little to trimmed to fit the pommel and ferrel, the grip has that white look on the trimmed area's that say to me that it has not long been trimmed and does not have that golden aged look that we see on other stag grips that we know are from that period. The pommel nut is a little too pointed and along with the dogs heads on the crossguard and the clamshell I have seen all these exact fittings on modern pieces made to look old. The blade etch is well know from the 3rd Reich but the makers mark is a known re-pro mark on some hirschfängers presented from that same period, the riccasso looks like it has been buffed but that just might be the pictures, I should think that the blade is from a much later period or even old left over stock. Maybe this is all just personal taste, I'm sure there are some with different opinions and that is fine as with all edged weapons you have to be comftable with it yourself, it's just that I am not. heers Gary |

I don't like it either for many of the same reasons. The blade appears to be that of C&J-the clamshell the Eickhorn type. IMO it is a parts piece-not authentic and post war.

James,
Nat's "how to" says it all. If you want to get fancy, depress the Prnt Scrn button, open in MS Paint, then save it as a JPG. Then you can post the entire screenshot here. Or, right click, copy and paste in your thread __________________________ Collecting Army Swords "Bei Mir Bist du Schön" |
