Check out 290225004547. Is it period or not? Screws holding the hilt appear to be sunk too deep and the frog seems almost too new. But, I am no expert on these. Any ideas from the team? yager

Here's the link to it. I have been keeping an eye on it and was wondering the same things, I quite like it and to me it seems O.K. There is a very similar Standhauer in the WKC catalouge of 1924 just with a slightly different type scabbard and with rivets in the grip and not bolts. Gary |

Here's a scan from the early WKC catalouge. Similar to the No 22 pattern I believe.

Thanks for the pictures Gary. Wish we could see a close up of the screws in the hilt. I do not have one of these in my collection to compare to, but it seems the ones I have seen do not have the screw heads so deep. Houston, you probably have one to compare to.!! ??

Personally I would not lose any sleep over the depth of the heads of the bolts, from the many pictures I do not see any obvious signs of tampering and would happily purchase it at the right price. The blade looks a bit spotty and I'm not sure it would clean up to well. Overall though I think it's a nice piece.

Interesting piece. I have not seen one like it before. Interesting thing about most of these is that you can't replace the blade--the hilt and blade are one piece.

As far as I know, this is a Luftwaffe survival knife.

Not the so called Luftwaffe Forestry sidearm. Private pre Third Reich purchase Hunting knife, IMO.

I agree with Houston, not related to Luftwaffe at all, whilst it has similarities to the Waffen Loesche (ChAw) knives it most certainly is a hunting related knife.
