Hello..

This knife was in my stepdads things when he passed.. It does not have the swastika on it like all the other originals I have seen, but have read that not all had it, it does have the leather disk betweent he blade and sheith..

Blade says it was made by G.C.Co Solingen Germany..

I would guess it's not worth as much as one with the swastika, but is it worth anything at all?

Here's some photos

Thanks

Hello Blue:

Welcome to the Forum.

The first thing to note is that the trademark says 'Germany', which means that it is post war made.

I will defer to other experts on this type of knife.

I am afraid John is correct.

Anything that has Germany on the blade is post war and the lip on the top of the scabbard is a common practice on reproduction Hitler Youth Knives.
Probable worth £40 ($80) to somebody.

Best wishes.
Ian

Blue..sometimes you will find that they are assembled from left over parts, or are actually period produced pieces that were remanufactured post war for foreign markets (boy scouts etc..)

An interesting thing to do is hold the knife up with the edge of the blade facing you..look at the ricasso, the flat part of the bottom of the blade closest to the grip..

Sometimes you will notice that one side of the flat is scalloped out, or thinner and lower than the other side..this is often a sign that a Third Reich RZM code, or makers logo, was ground off.

OK.. I didn't notice much with the edge facing me, but looking at the back of the blade you can see that the right side has a much sharper edge where the radius meets the flat of the ricasso, also the flat of the back of the blade is beveled on the edges, and the left side has more meat than the other side with the sharp corner..

What do you think?

Would that make it worth more?

Thanks

Blue, it looks normal, unground..this is how i would expect it to look if it was ground..

btw, all post war scabbards have a lip at the top, you will not find that on period pieces.. Smile
