Well Bill..welcome to the forum..this sword was produced by WKC, a very old and prolific maker in Solingen Germany..it was sold through a distributor in Berlin..
Other people here can chime in on the specific time period and pattern, though by the logo, it is Imperial German.. |

This type of sword is generally referred to as a "Court Sword". These we usually worn by diplomats, and titled people to formal events and some of them are quite elaborate. Yours appears to be a somewhat plain example but does have a nicely etched blade. Date wise I would think 1st quarter of the 20th Century.

Ok,I found a website for the WKC Co. and they still make this style of sword but they are calling it the Infantry Officer sword.
I must say,it does look just like what I have, all but the etching. The scabbard is an exact match to mine.. I can see on the blade that there is a "Coat of Arms" I will try to get some decent pictures of it with hopes that may help. Thanks again everyone for taken your time and helping me with this. -Bill Godbold |

The crest is the Hohenzollern eagle, the ruling family/Imperial crest of Germany. Made by WKC, the distributor was E. Sachs, Berlin. Hoflieferant is a special accreditation meaning " Purveyor to the court". The sword is generally known as an Infantry Officer's pattern. However, this style was also utilized as a Vereins pattern- ie: sometimes used by various fraternal organizations, societies and associations - in Imperial (pre-1918) Germany. Not an uncommon sword, but, in my opinion, a very attractive pattern. A search of German swords on ebay will generally show numerous listings for this type of degen ( straight bladed sword) and give you an idea of current market value. Hope this helps. Roger |
