Richy, I, too have bought from Ian/Simply Daggers and was well satisfied. I believe his prices are quite reasonable, also. Regards, Leipzig

I agree. Simply Daggers are a great place to deal. I have had no dealings with the other person mentioned here so cannot comment.

Simply Daggers is always my first port of call. I have bought some nice kit from the owner.

I'll vouch for Andrew Gates... 100%.

http://www.military-collectables.com/

I've also bought from these guys who seemed pretty good:

http://www.regimentals.co.uk/

Harvey Riley is also excellent:

http://www.militarydaggers.com/

He doesn't list his items, just get in contact and tell him what you need. He's been around for a long time and has loads of pieces.

Never bought from these guys but they have some very nice items sometimes:

http://www.theoldbrigade.co.uk/

... and of course, there's our own GDC members as mentioned:

http://www.simplydaggers.co.uk/

and

Hey Guys, I'm really touched.
To be included in the same list as what I consider to be the 'Big Boys' is really flattering.
As you can see I am only a small time dealer with not many items for sale at once , but I hope to increase in time.
This last year has been amazing and I have to thank many of the GDC members for their continued support (you know who you are Big Grin )

Thanks and best wishes from Ian and Wendy

just to back up my last, i have dealt with andrew gates for over 10 years and have bought and sold loads through him, he really knows his stuff, is a major uk supplier to tom wittmann and is extremely good on naval daggers and miniatures.
whilst i haven't dealt with 'simply daggers' they look to be very straightforward and have had some nice stuff for sale - i've just been way too slow off the mark to bag anything so far. the fact that they are forum members should add some sort of 'comfort factor' for you.
as for the others mentioned, they certainly have some good stock but you need to know your stuff !

For UK Dealers, I highly recommend Andrew Gates and do so without any reservations. He is knowledgeable, happy to work with you, and searches for the Items on your 'Wish List.' (A number of his SS Daggers are featured in TW's Book) Andrew has found for me a number of the 'rarer' SA's; SS 33's; and SS & Police Degens. I am pleased > 100%.

I've also bought from Ian & Wendy at Simply Daggers, and they have great items and super service.

Ian & Wendy have had some great items this last year & I too was way too slow to bag anything. Now unfortunately something of a moot point though as I am no longer able to collect. Frown

Andrew Gates has had glowing comments before & whilst I did look at the site, at the time there was not much stock (poor timing probably)& pricing seemed more reasonable (for uk dealer).
I personally couldn`t recommend looking any further than those mentioned above.

If you look around the UK dealers you will find that they are in general over-priced & do not give very objective descriptions. Therefore the stock does not change very often. I have bought most of my stuff from either other collectors or North American dealers.

Watch that regimentals site with your eyes wide open. Bad Allach at last SOS. Thankfully, I returned it with no problem but it was unquestionably a bad copy.

I also bought from Andrew, some nice Navy daggers.

Don't know about his daggers but you should also visit www.hannahsreich.co.uk. The owner is a very reliable and kind person and has some great original stuff for very reasonable prices.

I bought a shooting dagger and a boar's head dagger from Andrew Gates a few years ago. He is quite pleasant, and a super individual.

I most recently had the pleasure to deal with Wendy and Ian from "Simply Daggers" and it was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend them.

Old Brigade is good, but EXPENSIVE especially with the $ / £ exchange.

Lets make it clear, I'm not *****in. US dealers according to their own hype aim to mark up anything you sell to them by between 25-39%, fair enough. I recently needed to shut two 2nd Lufts so I sold them to Old Brigade for £155 and £185, they later appeared on the site at £475 and £525, quite a mark up, like I said I ain't *****in, my choice and because of the exchange rate would't have fared better across the pond. USA is the place for us in the UK who are buying.

Nothing has been edited. When a Mod prunes something, the system leaves a message.

When the original poster goes back and changes what was posted inside the 45 minute limit, then there is no trace.

"Quite a mark up"? is ......something of an understatement. Precisely why I indicated in my earlier post that I would generally not deal with UK dealers. Although not mentioning any names I certainly had them in mind & a few others. I am really sorry you had such a disagreeable experience. I think it`s called a "rip-off" I am fairly certain that you would have done much better on ebay or even in our own for sale forum. One can only hope that such unbridaled greed will be their undoing.

totally agree with vaughn, you`d have got more on e-bay, and on here with a couple of piccies. i recently sold some mothers crosses to a dealer that were surplus to my requirements, and whilst the mark up was not as excessive as that!, i cracked a wry smile!. Roll Eyes. they are not dishonest, let`s make that much clear, but the dealers on mainland europe, and certainly in north america , are on the whole, cheaper.another case for `rip off britain`?. Mad

My first post on this forum & just to say that i've just got back from meeting Ian Dale of Simply Daggers in a layby to buy a Hitler Youth knife & the guy is a star! Drove down to near my house at night & stood for nearly an hour and a half in the cold cold wind & talked daggers & other stuff, then sold me a nice HJ with Motto at a great price as arranged.
Who else will give you that service at his prices in the UK.....no-one!
Thanks Ian, i'll be back for more, when i'm quick enough!
Ant
