Hi all,
After many years and selling most of what I had, I'm bit by the bug again I think!
Some info:
Magnetic scabbard/hilt.
Emblem does'nt wiggle, it's in that "hole" real good!
Nice faded but legible motto.
"L (oakleaf) S" stamped faintly into the leather hanger.
Shows plenty of signs of having been used as a hammer by someone, probably what smashed the inside grip panel!
Here's some pics.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Mike S

Hi Mike, welcome along. Looks like a good one to me. The diamonds aren't always loose fitting. The leather hanger marking will be 'LFS' with the 'F' in an oakleaf. Nice maker mark. I think I saw this one on ebay a while ago, and it had a slightly damaged tip from memory? Nice catch, and no doubt, the first of many more to come...!

Regards
Russell

Thanks Russell!
Yes, the tip probably saw a tree or two. Yes, it's from the 'bay. Probably the same one too.
Price: $125...
Main reason I bought it was because I wanted a "motto" blade in a bad way.:-)
Yes, it's beat up, but I like the "been there done that look".
Does the wood grip repair look period to you?
regards,
mike S

I don't know but I don't think it's recent looking at the obverse rivets. Someone else may be able to help. I have one which has been used as a hammer - it has a lot of dents in-between the grip plates down the top of the hilt, and one of them is chipped and broken, probably as a result of the treatment it received. If there are a lot of dents and hammer-type damage around the hilt, it could possibly be period replaced. Good price for a mottoed knife!

Regards
Russell

Hi Mike, nice knife. After selling you're knives many years ago were you shocked by the price they are today? I collect knives like this too. It is getting hard because everything is soo expensive!! So I collect the "beaters". But that is what I can afford. Ian.

Thanks Ian.
Yeah, I like the beaters because they have "character" and I like my old stuff to look...well.. OLD!:-)
About my old collection.
I actually stuck with bayonets back them. We're talking I was like 16 and going to gun shows with an older guy who was a collector...and had a car!
It was the early '80. I'd gotten a real nice heer dress bayonet with scabbard and frog for $65, Arisaka bayonets ran $25, heck almost any bayonet was $25 back then! Used to get a nice *** Arisaka type 99 for $55-70 all day long.
Since then I sold it almost all except for an EK2 I bought with my mother at an antique store, and a Gau Tagg I was given by an old vet.
I plan on posting pics of both soon to learn more about them.
Cya,
mike

I commend you Mike for collecting what you enjoy. My collecting interests are not that popular amoung the group, but I enjoy the way they look, the craftmanship, and the story. Im speaking og plain old Army sabers, from the Weimar to the end of the reich. Unfortunately most beeter sabers are the way they are becuase of neglect and a few generations of kids fiddling with them. As such, beeter sabers really look bad. Its tough to pull it off with them, where as with daggers, EKs, IABs, etc there seems to be more latitude for display. That gold colored gilt is so darn fragile it seems to fall off if you look at it wrong.

Anway, welcome back to collecting and cool been there HJ.

T
