I recently picked up this "oddity" that has all Alcoso fitting but a custom blade and etch.

The name is G. Baum is there anyway to find out more about him in the Luftwaffe?

Now, isn't the fleur de lys book end usually used by Eickhorn? I know that this is not the typical Eick etch pattern, but who else used this model?

And, on a PDL blade?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

A couple of oddities in the etch, I noticed.

In both etches, the details of the etch seem to be shifted slightly to the top of the etch... look at the alignment of the leaves at the front of the etches compared to the top and bottom borders of the etch.

Also, on the named side, look at the edges of the border around the name above and below the '.' and above the 'm'. These straight edges on the interior border are not straight.

I would think that a custom order such as this would exhibit better workmanship.

Hard to tell, but it looks like it... I am of the understanding that the only etched unplated blades that are generally accepted are Eickhorns.

Looks to be plated Paul, look at the 'tang' shot you can see where the plating ends. I don't think the quality of the etch matches up to TR standards.

The fact that the blade is in much better condition and shows no wear in keeping with the rest of the piece raises doubts for me as well. The Luneschloss blade itself and TM appear to be real with this one being the rarest of the 3 marks used ( I have it on on an army dagger ).
A tough one to call for sure and great quality if it is a post war plate/etch.

As expected there are some different thought on it on the blade as well as the rest of the dagger. The point Im surprised no one has really touched on is the fact that the dagger is not PL its Alcoso.

Degans: Can you show us some pics of your maker mark.

Luneschloss are known to have used parts from various makers, my army has early WKC fittings.

Here is the only shot I have at the moment of the TM which is not of much use and it does slightly differ from yours in that the PD is alongside Luneschloss.
Both acceptable in my opinion.

I'm a bit unsure now having taken a second look, the second pic is rather blown up and would show very minor detail to the etch which may be a little unfair, the first and third pics are more in keeping with how the human eye would view it and it's actually a pretty nice crisp etch, hard to judge really, personally for my own collection I only buy those pieces I know I can certainly get my money back on, so it's over to whoever wants to buy it and what is the price.
