Hiya Gaz, what do you reckon caused that? it's definitely ivory! or maybe bone? but you certainly don't see that colour every day. I would have tended to core ivory as there are many blood vessels in that and it tends to colouring more, on the other hand core ivory has less tendency to crack and this one has a rare old crack there, or in salesmans terms a beautiful striation Big Grin

Whatever, nice score, then again you always do.

Yes it's Ivory, I presume that it has been in a very dry area hence the crack on the reverse.

Cheers

Strange as it may seem I have refrained from licking this piece, to date that is, it does look very appealing and I might lose control at any moment and try Big Grin, I'll let you know what it tastes like but I am expecting a creamy caramel taste. Wink
Amazingly this piece sat on a dealers table at the last war and peace show for 4 days before I picked it up and bought it, it took me all of 15 seconds to agree a price and to pay the guy, how many others had passed it by I do not know.

Thanks for all of the nice comments

Gary

Are you sure the color has not been altered?...Maybe a heat treatment even...Looks awesome but almost too translucent.

Thanks for the great comments guys,
Tom
It does have a translucent look to it, the colouring is like nothing I have seen with my own eyes before, I don't believe it has been altered in anyway, I have maybe 30 or so senior forestry daggers with Ivory grips and a few do exhibit the creamy/golden hues sometimes seen on old ivory, this piece just takes it to another level. It is indeed awesome as you say.

Thanks

Gary
