I think this is a late war WKC. The fittings seem to be aluminum. The grip has casting lines on the side and a very poor top fit to the rear but also has a wood core.

I am open to all suggestions on how this dagger got a grip like this.

This is the reverse of the grip. Look at the area at the pommel and you can see it is like it was never properly trimmed (the grip that is)

Thank you

Personally, I think it is an original grip. I have seen poorly cast and finished grip on Heers before, not unlike yours. Usually Alcoso has some poorly finished grips in the very late period.
Just a sign of the times! Wink
The only thing that seems odd to me is the very poor pommel fit. The grip may have come from another dagger (parts piece?), but I don't know...

Original dagger -no doubt. The grip may have shrunk causing the pommel to not go all the way down to seat -ot the tang may be bent which can also cause this. Easily fixed.

Fittings would not be aluminum but pot metal? Agreed as said the 2 most likely scenarios are the grip has shrunk because of the wood or someone replaced the grip?

Have a similar grip, but on a 2nd Luft. by WKC, pommel is a little short and has seam on each side of grip. Read somewhere, probably here, that grips with seam were maybe post-war? Sorry no picture.

Post war grips are usually plastic with no wood or plaster inserts. They sometimes have seams but the late war ones do too.

You also sometimes see a seam on the wood cored white 2nd model Luftwaffe grips.
