Tiep,

If your knife isn't proofed it's worth less on the open market IMO. I think Dons & Rich K. will back me up on this. I don't think these have been "faked", per se. I believe non-proofed examples are referred to as "commercial" pieces. I really do need to get one of these someday, they're just so unusual looking.

Tiep:

I just went through a process of trying to find an unarguable Third Reich version of this knife. First of all, these are work knives, not for show, like the dress daggers and bayonets that many of us love to collect.

Variations of these knives have been and still are in use. At the last SOS, I saw wood-handled and authentic US versions of this knife.

If you want unarguable period weapons, then a trademark is optional, but a naval proof or waffen amp stamping is a necessity.

Any knife without the naval markings raises questions and is, IMHO, worth less than one with markings.

Thanks for the input guys. I figured I had to put in a ****ey reply to get you guys off your butts Big Grin Any how yes, I would a gree that they are not worth as much as a 3rd Reich made knives, also they are cerainly worth less but not worthless pieces. These are known as period made commercial from everything Ive been able to scrounge up. Heck I know Johnson is inflated on prices in most every case but $800 plus for one unmarked without a scabbard, come on.Its supposed to be from Keil and it will go good by my WKC navy that I got from Keil. They really are great conversation pieces, the weight alone would crack a skull. Tiep Wink

Very nice looking piece, Tiep!

Just wonder, if there are no markings, how to see the difference with those used by the French and the Brittisch? Those countries had a much bigger fleet and more divers (who used the same tools) than the Germans.

But I really like this knife and would probably buy it myself!

Best greetings,

Herman

That should be very interesting information, Tiep!

Keep us posted please, there is too few information about these wonderful divers knifes in my opinion.

A couple of years ago, I hesistated on buying one looking like the one you show (also no markings) and I still regret it today that I did not buy it, because I never saw one like it again.

Good luck!

Best greetings,

Herman

I bought blades for these about 15+ years ago from WKC. Some had trademarks and DIST. stamp (Aug Luneburg Kiel) Some blades were blank. Sold all at a MAX show. These were old stock blades..

Your snide insinuations, both here and in your e-mails to me, are getting a little boring. I do not intend responding again until you have a valid complaint.
