Hi Gents - Have not posted in a long time, so time for a little show and tell. Picked this and decent Luft 1st model up from an antique store that just took in from a Vet's widow. Other than one little age spot under eagle, the blade is killer with all the crossgrain.

Came with excellent Assmann marked hangers too.

Regards, Jeff

Nice dagger I have never seen a generic A crossguard in aluminum appears maybe the plating is gone none the less a nice later example based on the crossguard and scabbard screw placement.

Tom , maybe it's late one that was never plated, I can't imagine any crossguard losing 100% of it's plating and looking as crisp as that one, white grip as well point's to a later model. They did stop plating as the war progressed, I once had an Eick Heer with unplated pot metal pommel and Xguard, it was only after I sold it that I found out that some collectors who specialise in Heers actually really give these examples some merit as being sought after to complete a collection.

Not trying to detract from the piece, its a beauty and could be quite a rarity in its own right

Just took another look and it would seem the pommel is also unplated, I'd bet next months pension they've always been like that, so IMO a nice score.

Gentlemen - thanks for your replies. IMO the pommel and the crossguard have never been plated. Here is a closer shot of the pommel.

Evidently, Mr. Shuttelhofer didn't like to have an unique fittings supplier. I have 3 Asso Heerdolche, all in different combination: a generic A, an alu early Klaas with slant grip and a heavy Eickhorn

Jeff, Are you sure that those fittings are aluminum ? I've had both a maker-marked Shuttlehoffer and a non-marked one with the exact same white grip and these light colored "Generic" fittings, but never considered them to be aluminum.

JR, if I remember corectly back in 05 at the Charlotte MAX you bought one of these from me with the same fittings as Jeff has. In fact this dagger has the same grip also. Jeff your dagger has a silver plated scabbard with the mid war fittings that are nickel plated on base metal. Like the ones you see on Spitzer products or on some Anton Wingen pieces.

Hi JR and Ed - Good seeing both at MAX.

JR - You might very well be right, I defer to your experience, just assumed it was aluminum. Have not dissembled to weigh of course, just went by the light consistent color. It would appear though that the true aluminum ones are much lighter in appearance.

Great detailing and nice finish, would that lack on aluminum ones? Or would one expect the same level high level of detail?

Regards, Jeff
