The text says "Im Kampf allein ist Sieg" (in the sense of you can win only if you fight).
Can say nothing concerning originallity (periodness) of the engraving (etching?).
From the look of the lines in the coat of arms it looks like an engraving. But the script looks more like an etching. Close ups would be necessaty to be able to do a serious statement.
Generally "normally" there were etchings and very seldom engravings (due to the hardness of blade-steel) on the blades.

I will take some much better close up pics of it today at some point.I would say the dagger and engraving is 100% original and period done.
(At least that is my feeling on this one ) Thank you for your translation !

I saw this dagger, or one very similar, advertised for sale quite a few years ago, possibly by Wittmann.

What I can see from the new pics both (text and coat of arms) look to me like etched.
All is clean, delicately and obviously expertly done.
For me impossible to do a statement concerning periodness.

Ranvette,
why don't you contact a genealogy researcher in Germany who is expert in heraldry?

Having owned a few personalized army's i can attest that many hours and emails i came up empty handed, i have also scene this dagger on another forum many moons ago, and without seeing it in hand, i like it as stated above etching looks pretty good on the coat of arms not overly embelished and all of the componets seem to match, would really need to see some good closeups or hold it in hand to get my final say Razz
