A friend picked up a Luft 2nd model many years ago at a garage sale from the daughter of a deceased WWII Vet. He is not a edged weapons collector - he collects handguns - especially old German ones but he stumbled onto this, saw it was obviously German and from WWII.
The sword is in beautiful condition as is the scabbard. Question; The scabbard is black leather with silver hilt and tip. The other Lufts I see on this site seem to be metal and have loops for hangers. Does a black leather scabbard sound right for this or is it a mismatch sword / scabbard?
He was to have sent me photos by email but send hardcopy photos instead. (If possible his photographic expertise is worse than mine!)

Sounds like a repo scabbard. All original 2nd lufts have a metal scabbard. Seems I have seen some repos with this leather type scabbard you mention. Yes pictures would help.

I have seen this scabbard with the B&A marked blades. These where assembled after the war as souvenirs so the story goes.

Are you indicating just the scabbard is a post war souvenier or both scabbard & blade?

My understanding of the ones that I have seen are put together post war. The hilt parts on the ones I saw where possibly period made. The scabbard and blade most definitely post war. Would need pictures of yours to make any further comments. You see these occasionally on eBay for sale. IMO they are of little collector value.
