Just Picked up this early Army has the aluminum hilt fittings, early large Tiger mark. Grip has a glass look to it. Just can’t resist these aluminum army’s. Have seen one other aluminum hilted Tiger Wittmann sold it about 5 years ago for a healthy sum.

Dave The scabbard is steel the scabbard and grip ferrule have a nice untouched black patina, just what you like to see on these aluminum hilted army daggers.

BEAUTIFUL. I think these aluminum pieces constitute a collecting field in themselves. Yours is nice and rare. Is it the typical EPack configured dagger? Tang?

Denny Thank You - Everything looks to me to be Pack the scabbard with the double screws - bands look like my other packs - crossguard pack. The pommel is a little different then my other aluminum army’s the leafs are closer to the top of the pommel edge .My bet is a tapered tang - the grip is stuck on the tang I am afraid with the brittleness of the glass grips to damage the grip so I didn’t get to ruff with it. I agree these aluminum army’s are a collecting field in themselves I wish I had the other two I sold a Spitzer and a JA Henckels.

Bet it has a tapered tang. I own a Spitzer with aluminum fittings by EPack that has the tapered tang as I suspect all aluminum equipped Armys should have since they were early attempts at trying different metals before they went to the pot metal stuff, by and by.....

Would be interesting to hear if anyone else's aluminum fitted Armys have tapered tangs.....but will ask in another topic....

Beautiful Army, Tom.....

Denny I believe you are right every aluminum fitted army I have seen (owned) has had a tapered tang. I am starting to think there may be two variations of these crossguards with subtle differences maybe one day I (we) can compile pictures of the crossguards and compare them. I think between the two of us we have at least a ½ dozen examples.
